One Small Action Contributes to One Big Difference

Our MSEL Lead group is working with Painted Bins. It's an organization founded by Kathy Huber - our Lead Group community partner. Her work at Painted Bins can be found around Southern Marin schools and parks.

Kathy holds art contests and shows for children at Marin County schools, which encourage students to get their art to be placed on compost bins that end up at public parks and schools. It is all to promote the idea of composting your food waste.

But why? When food waste is thrown in the landfill, greenhouse gasses like methane are released into the atmosphere. By composting food, humans are naturally recycling it to make healthier soil and a healthier environment. The bins with childrens’ art helps spread the message of composting as a whole and educates people across Marin.

Next time you find yourself disposing of your lunch, take the extra moment to sort out the waste. One small action contributes to one big difference, and with the help of Painted Bins, our community can make that big difference a reality.
