Every Crumb Counts
Did you know that Food waste contributes to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions? Something that could be fixed just by putting your waste into your compost bin. It seems simple, but food waste can still be a leading factor in climate change.
According to Reducing Food Waste: Strategies for Household Waste Management, it says “When food waste is not composted and sent to landfills, which would degrade in anaerobic conditions to release methane as a potent greenhouse gas.” This means that in landfill conditions, food waste will degrade and release methane. Meaning that if every person composted their food waste, there will be a decrease in Climate change.
Our Lead group is trying to make this happen. One of our goals is to hand out 60 of the compost bins to reach the bigger goal of reducing all food waste. Just one family and household composting will make a huge difference in the fight against Climate change. It's as easy as obtaining a compost bin and putting food waste there daily. Every crumb counts to help the fight against climate change.
